Walking Through Uz with Calvin

In this project, I am undertaking a systematic exploration of John Calvin's 159 sermons on the Book of Job. My goal is to reflect on the rich, pastoral, and often challenging insights of the Reformer on key themes such as Divine Sovereignty, Human Suffering, and Providence.

I intend to read one sermon each day, using the translation by Rob Roy McGregor (The Banner of Truth Trust, 2022). Starting November 30th, 2025, I should have finished all sermons by May 8th, 2026, following this schedule:

Job Chapters 1-14 (Sermons 1–56): Sunday 11/30/25 — Sunday 1/25/26 (I am on track!)

Job Chapters 15-30 (Sermons 57–110): Monday 1/26/26 — Friday 3/20/26

Job Chapters 31-42 (Sermons 111–159): Saturday 3/21/26 — Friday 5/8/26

I hope to blog my summary thoughts—however brief—and highlight quotes that stand out to me after every sermon. As things unfold, I am finding that sometimes my thoughts are motivated by Calvin's specific interpretation, but other times by the biblical verses themselves. My focus shifts between the rhetoric of Calvin and the devotional aspects within me that he instills or stirs up. This blog is primarily for me to organize my thoughts.
