Walking Through Uz with Calvin

Sermon 76, Job 20:20-25

The sermon address the inevitability of punishment on the wicked. That punishment can’t be escaped and can come any time.

Within the sermon there is encouragement. We should ask God for the “blessing of being aware of his grace and of knowing that he wants to be a father to us and that we have sustenance from him.” I have been feeling hungry all the time recently, and feeling unsatisfied. I need to be more reflective.

“It is impossible for a man to be content and sated when he looks only at the possessions he has in his hands.”

“But we must still moderate our feelings. Especially must we know what it means to be sustained by God and ask him for provisions and also expect them from his bounty without being overly distressed.”

“…only God’s blessing causes men to benefit and gives them contentment.”

“…his blessings alone will satisfy us more than all the world’s abundance.”
